WASHINGTON, D.C. —

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has publicly voiced support for one of President Donald Trump’s latest White House projects—a proposed grand ballroom—arguing that it would provide a more suitable venue for major performances and official cultural events.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the hip-hop icon said performers invited to the White House should have access to a dedicated indoor stage rather than being asked to perform outdoors.

Wayne recalled his experience performing at then–Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2023 event celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, describing the outdoor setting as feeling more like a backyard gathering than a formal White House celebration.

“I’m glad they’re finally doing it,” Wayne said, referring to the proposed ballroom.

A New Venue for State Events

President Trump has announced plans to construct a large ballroom within the White House complex, saying the new facility would be used for:

State dinners
Official ceremonies
Cultural performances
National celebrations
High-profile diplomatic events

Supporters of the project argue that a dedicated indoor venue would reduce reliance on temporary tents and outdoor stages that have often been used for major White House gatherings.

Wayne said artists invited to perform at national events deserve a setting that reflects the significance of the occasion.

Not Lil Wayne’s First Public Support for Trump

The rapper’s latest comments have also revived discussion about his previous interactions with Donald Trump.

In October 2020, shortly before the U.S. presidential election, Lil Wayne met Trump in Florida and publicly praised the administration’s proposed “Platinum Plan,” an initiative aimed at increasing economic opportunities for Black Americans.

Following that meeting, Wayne wrote on social media that Trump had listened to concerns raised by members of the Black community and expressed confidence that the president intended to address them.

The meeting attracted widespread public attention and generated mixed reactions among fans and political observers.

A Long-Running Debate

Trump’s ballroom proposal has become another topic of debate in Washington.

Supporters believe the White House has long needed a permanent venue capable of hosting large-scale official events without relying on temporary structures.

Critics, however, have questioned both the project’s cost and timing, arguing that federal resources should prioritize other national needs.

The administration has maintained that the ballroom would modernize the White House’s event facilities while preserving the historic character of the presidential residence.

Politics and Entertainment Continue to Intersect

Lil Wayne’s endorsement highlights the increasingly visible relationship between politics and the entertainment industry.

Over the past decade, musicians, actors and athletes have frequently weighed in on political issues, while elected leaders have increasingly sought support—or faced criticism—from influential public figures.

Although Wayne’s remarks focused primarily on the event venue rather than broader political issues, they quickly sparked renewed discussion across social media, with supporters praising the proposal and critics questioning the rapper’s continued support for Trump-linked initiatives.

Why It Matters

The proposed White House ballroom has become more than an architectural project. It represents how culture, politics and public image increasingly overlap, particularly when high-profile celebrities publicly endorse or criticize government initiatives.

TAD Perspective

Lil Wayne’s comments reflect a practical perspective centered on event presentation rather than policy.

Regardless of political affiliation, the debate surrounding the White House ballroom illustrates how even infrastructure projects can become part of broader political conversations in the United States.
