MARYLAND, United States —
Actress Kaylee Hottle, widely recognized for portraying Jia in Warner Bros.’ *Godzilla vs. Kong* and *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire*, has died following a single-vehicle traffic accident in Maryland. She was 18 years old.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Hottle was one of two passengers inside a vehicle involved in the crash during the early hours of Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 19-year-old driver suffered injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators said excessive speed is believed to have been a contributing factor, although the collision remains under investigation.
A Rising Young Star
Hottle became internationally known after making her feature-film debut as Jia, the deaf orphan who forms a unique emotional bond with Kong in the MonsterVerse franchise.
Her performance in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” earned praise for bringing authentic representation to the big screen. She later reprised the role in 2024’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” once again appearing alongside a star-studded cast.
Although still early in her acting career, Hottle was widely recognized as one of Hollywood’s promising young performers.
An Inspiration for the Deaf Community
Born into a family where four generations on her father’s side are deaf, Hottle became a powerful example of inclusion in the entertainment industry.

She frequently communicated using American Sign Language (ASL) and inspired many young deaf audiences by appearing in major Hollywood productions.
During a 2024 interview promoting *Godzilla x Kong*, Hottle shared how classmates reacted to seeing her on the big screen.
“They think it’s super cool,” she said. “They’re seeing one of their friends on the big screen.”
Her success was celebrated as an important step toward greater representation of deaf actors in mainstream cinema.
Family Mourns the Tragic Loss
Following news of the accident, Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, shared an emotional message on social media, saying he was traveling to Maryland after learning of his daughter’s death.
Tributes from fans and members of the entertainment community quickly spread across social media, with many remembering Hottle for her warmth, determination and groundbreaking role within the MonsterVerse films.
Warner Bros. and the production teams behind the films have not yet released official public statements.

Investigation Ongoing
According to authorities, the crash involved only one vehicle.
Investigators continue examining the exact circumstances surrounding the collision, including road conditions, vehicle speed and other possible contributing factors.
No additional details have been released at this stage.
